Island Crown, Champions and Spocco Points

Island Crown is the game's single-player spine, and Spocco Points are the currency that turns it into a long-term grind. Both are worth understanding in detail before you start chasing 100% completion.

How the Island Crown ladder works

Each of the nine competitive sports has its own ladder. You begin at rank 20 and climb one opponent at a time until you reach rank 1. From there you face the sport's named Island Champion, and after that the Island Legends, who are tiered above the Champions but are not individually named. A win streak can promote you five ranks in one go, and every rank-up unlocks an exclusive cosmetic. The three leisure sports - Skateboarding, Power Cruising and Prop Plane - have no ladder.

Matt, the tough Mii fighter from the original Wii Sports, also returns as a champion-tier opponent - and appears in some listings tied to Boxing. Beyond the named Champions, the Island Legend tier exists but its roster has not been published.

Spocco Points: where they come from

Spocco Points are earned by playing any sport in any mode - online or offline, solo or local. Better performance means more points, and there is roughly a 1,000-point daily log-in bonus. Two rules catch people out: guest players earn nothing, and the per-match rates have not been published by Nintendo.

The Item Center

The Item Center in the island hub sells rotating sets of cosmetics: two weekly sets and one monthly set. Each random pull costs 1,000 Spocco Points, and a set never gives you a duplicate. The genuinely important mechanic is the rebuy rule - complete a weekly set and you unlock the ability to buy back any items you missed from the previous week. Because sets rotate, a player who skips a week loses access to those cosmetics permanently unless they had finished the prior set first.
